What is vitamin B12, lack of vitamin B12 will have several major symptoms

Vitamins are organic compounds necessary for maintaining health, and they play an important role in the metabolism of matter. Of course they have a good impact on human metabolism. Grow. Although vitamin content is relatively low, a lack of vitamins is harmful to health. For example, vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is mainly involved in the two metabolic processes of folate metabolism and nervous system metabolism, and the lack of this vitamin usually leads to nerve damage, so vitamin B12 has a very important role in the human body.

1. Pernicious anemia

Vitamin B12 is involved in the nucleic acid metabolism of cells, providing the body's necessary nutrients for the hematopoietic process, vitamin B12 deficiency will lead to DNA synthesis disorders in red blood cells, inducing megaloblastic anemia, that is, clinical medical pernicious anemia.

2. Weakness, fatigue and dizziness

This is a typical symptom of vitamin B12 deficiency. First of all, anemia itself will lead to fatigue and dizziness, coupled with the reduction of red blood cells, the efficiency of oxygen delivery in the body is greatly reduced, and many cells cannot get enough oxygen, to feel the weakness and dizziness caused by lack of oxygen.

3. Harm to the nervous system

Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause plaque or diffuse nerve demyelination, a progressive neuropathy that begins in peripheral nerves and gradually affects the spinal cord and brain, forming subacute complex degeneration and presenting with neurological abnormalities such as nervousness, depression, memory loss, inattention, and tremors in the extremities.

4. Chest tightness, heart panic

Once the human body is deficient in vitamin B12, it will induce chronic anemia, and another serious problem caused by anemia is to increase the running burden and stress of the heart, especially in the elderly, which greatly increases the risk of heart disease. For the elderly who already have heart disease such as coronary heart disease and angina, long-term lack of vitamin B12 will accelerate the severity of their heart disease and seriously threaten life.

Vitamin B12 may improve the condition

1. Prevent anemia

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in red blood cell formation, cell metabolism and DNA production, and can keep blood cells healthy. Daily intake of enough vitamin B12 can maintain the number of red blood cells and hemoglobin at normal levels, ensure the normal blood supply of the body, and also prevent pernicious anemia such as erythrocytic anemia.

2. Improve mouth ulcers

Studies have shown that vitamin B12 can be effective in treating mouth sores and preventing recurrent mouth ulcers. Timely supplementation with the right amount of vitamin B12 can reduce the pain of mouth ulcers to some extent and promote wound healing.

3. Reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases

Studies have found that high homocysteine levels are associated with an increased risk of heart disease and stroke because it may promote the formation of thrombosis and excess free radical cells and may impair normal vascular function. Vitamin B12 helps to reduce homocysteine levels and prevent atherosclerosis, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

4. Delay the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease

Vitamin B12 supplementation may lower homocysteine levels in the blood. A study in the journal Neurology found that for every 1 micromolar increase in blood homocysteine levels, the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease increased by 16%, while for every 1 pimolar increase in vitamin B12 levels, the risk of Alzheimer's disease in the elderly decreased by 12%

Vitamin B12 is an important element in our body, the lack of it will lead to our neuropathy, anemia and other conditions, according to research, especially the elderly, diabetics and long-term vegetarian people, these people body absorption and digestion capacity decline, vitamin B12 absorption is insufficient, life should be more appropriate supplementation of these vitamins, in addition to pay attention to the appropriate supplementation, to avoid overdose.
