User asked question:
Q:Is L-menthol the same as menthol?
A:No, L-menthol and menthol often refer to different things. Menthol can refer to a broader category, as it has eight isomers, each with distinct physical properties such as melting point, boiling point, and aroma. L-menthol is one of these, known for its intense cooling sensation and characteristic minty fragrance.
Q:What’s the difference between D-menthol and L-menthol?
A: L-menthol is the levorotatory (left-rotating) isomer of menthol, characterized by a refreshing, pungent sweetness and a pronounced cooling effect. In contrast, D-menthol is the dextrorotatory (right-rotating) isomer, which emits a woody aroma with a slight camphor-like scent and provides a milder cooling sensation. Therefore, in terms of practical applications, L-menthol is considered superior to D-menthol.
Q:Where is menthol stored?
A:L-menthol should be stored in a tightly sealed container and kept in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
